Scene Four pg20-28
Amanda and Tom had had a hateful argument the previous night. Amanda was heart-broken and Tom set off for the movies till dawn. When he returned, Laura was waiting for him and asked plentiful questions, and finally pleaded Tom to make it up with Mother. Tom reassured Laura that everything will be fine. The next day, when Laura left for grocery-shopping, Tom spoke to Amanda, and apologized. They soon started talking as well as discussing matters related to their life - Amanda's motherly-expectations, Laura's future and Tom's requirements to 'freedom'.
At the end of this scene/chapter, Tom is to help Laura in finding a gentlemen down at the warehouse as her very first gentlemen caller.

Organ solo (pg 20) - Tom is not only adventurous but he is interested in many other aspets as well, like music.
The Milk-Fund incident - Milk Fund is an association for the disabled young kids. The kids were given "Milk Money" for proper "growth". The kids were either smaller or sicker compared to other normal kids.

The Big Show began .. (pg21)
Malvolio the Magician - did stupendous tricks eg turned beer to whisky(Kentucky Straight Bourbon) from pitcher to pitcher; magic scarf to wave over canary cage to get a bowl a goldfish and also wave over bowl of goldfish to get flying canaries; got him nailed shut in a coffin and he escaped unscathed without removing a single nail.
Significance of Nailed-Coffin trick: Father left the family more or less the same way the Magician did, not even telling anyone and disappeared just like that. Nailed-Coffin symbolizes Amanda and the children.
Notice the stage lighting concentrated its attention to Father's grinning photograph.

JENGJENGJENG ~ !
A Very Handsome Young Man - symbolises playboy attitude. It makes the readers wonder whether the Father actually had other relationships other than Amanda. The Father is a traveler, therefore he seeks freedom and cannot stay put in one place. One might wonder if Father even had any feelings for Amanda. He must have been very smart to have escaped from Amanda's clutches that keep him inside the house.
The use of a very handsome young man emphasizes the love that Amanda has for the Father. She had seventeen other gentlemen callers which shows that not only Amanda's family is rich, they are well-known and good family background. However, Amanda chose the Father who was not rich but just charming and handsome. The Father is neither rich nor well-known but he is every girl's dreams. The love from Amanda to Father was proved because she gave up her servants as well as the life of the Rich-&-Famous for a cramped and crowded apartment in the busy city area. Mirror Image/Character is Jim, the gentlemen caller.

Honore Daumier (pg 23) - The facial expression on Amanda's face when she anticipated the moment when Tom entered the kitchen and hoped that he would talk to her. It was the day after their spiteful argument the previous night.

Glass Menagerie - symbolizes the different perspectives reflected/shown by someone. The spectrum created amplifies the different sides of a person. The Glass Unicorn especially, symbolizes Laura because firstly, she considers herself different from the others like that of a unicorn which has a horn on its forehead, different from the rest. Secondly, being a glass, it is fragile yet strong and hard. Laura is fragile and sensitive, yet she has her own strong personal standing and keeps to her beliefs of what is right and appropriate for her.
Glass reflects lights and creates a spectrum. This spectrum consists of 7 different colours. Therefore it shows the different sides of Laura - when she is around with her Glass Menagerie, when she faces her Mum, or even when she is with her Brother and strangers. The Glass is a symbol of the different characteristics of Laura.
