in case you guys are wondering, i'm nam:]]Today we had a single period. Miss Poh asked us to read this story last week and we continued today. Getting more detailed and revealing the truth of the story.I started of thinking that that lady in the story was psycho. i thought she loved her husband so much that she went bonker or something. However, when miss poh explained further in details, my view of the story changed. Miss poh explained that certain phrases are significance of important character development, or story development. So, we were asked to find them in pairs:]] i paired with fah and we started nagging at each other. "There's no right or wrong in literature." It's been told ever since the start of lit lessons this year which caused the both of us to debate over who was more convincing. We called miss poh over and over again. Just to see who was less "holey". This period of time, mdm tan was staring at us! and Mika started his contradictory theories once more. I was freaked out when i noticed miss maslinda standing at the back of fah. Forboding, she was wearing a black scarf and i started giggling when i turned and saw her mysterious face. Ah, she's always like that. hahaha. when mdm tan left, the lit class was alive again! Everyone was so dead during the lesson when she was present. no idea why though... now we're left with out assignments to finish in pairs. Part of the story was given to each group and we were expected to highlight the phrases that are important in the development of the story. i did it with fah just now. And i start to noticed all those points that i've missed out from the start. I just hope there's more to it. [negative words are effective:]]
hellos every1, i am posting at 11pm...well to summarise today's learning points...
today mrs poh talked to us on identifying phrases that would help you infer the story... and also wad the writer wants u to think...
i think that after tis lesson it would be easier for us to indentify the key points..even though mika was saying weird things.. lyk...when miss maslinda came...he said "whats that word ar....OH YES... FOREBODING"
well signing off here
*chihpeng was here*
jianhong here!!
apologizes to chiao chen for mistaking to dunno :P ...XD
chiao chen here!
JIAN HONG!!I SEE THAT!! Ok...I admit that I don't really understand what is it about. But after Ms.Poh explained the phrases to me, I understand!! I've learn to look more deeply into the words but not only the words we can see in the passage. Although I can see deeply into the story, I don't really know how to translate my thoughts into words... Think that I should practice more...
On behalf of Lyana:
From today's lesson, we learned more deeply about close reading and how to infer for information from such stories.
Amni:
Well, for me, i've learned that there is more than what is being written in the story. The more deeper meaning is from what that is being unwritten because we have to learn to infer and think from a much more simple level into something higher.
(as you can see, everything is written neatly and very very short and sweet because this is the real nature of us people)
hello!!!!!...
jianhong here and this is the first blog post that i have ever made in this blog...today is a single period with Ms.Poh and WOW!!....all contents of just a part of
The story of an hour was so complicated...although i got all of it but i think i still need to stress my brain to squeeze it in and make sure it stays there. After the explaining and infering on the Prose from Ms. Poh i think i learned that the images, expressions and the movements of one's character can show the characteristics of that particular person, and probably the characteristics of others as well, like that Richards. He was in a hurry to tell Louise[Mrs Mallard],and it was in a way that he wanted to tell her that her husband was dead for that she would get over him and he can marry Louise and there was when he tried to block Mr Mallard from Louise view so that see would not see him[like that will help].
After that,Ms Poh made us in pairs and we each did a part of the Prose and we were suppose to point out the points that lead to the development of the story and i was paired up with Chiao Chen.It was pretty hard at first, but when Ms.Poh showed us the part with the blue patches in the sky it showed that she was not only grieving about the husbands death but also thinking about the freedom that she will get and after that i think i got it but i don't think Chiao Chen got it :P....
Good Evening!
Aliffah here to post about our first ever Blog Assignment. What happened during today's Single Period of Literature?
Basically, today was the day that Ms Poh's teaching techniques will be examined and viewed by two great teachers, Mdm Tan and Ms Maslinda. They looked over the lesson and will be providing constructive remarks for Ms Poh for improvement-reference, as she is a trainee teacher. So, for the lesson, Ms Poh concentrated on finding sentences/phrases that contributes to the advancement of the storyline and the contributions of the character in forming the different points of the plot structure
(opening, conflict, climax, resolution/conclusion).
I paired up with Nam, as always, and started browsing through the given chunk, which is part of the passage titled "Story of an Hour". To start the recount of what happened today, I shall describe the stypical storyline of the this passage.
A woman, anonymous at first, was described as one who has a heart problem.
She had a husband, a loving husband, who was found dead after meeting into a tragic accident.
Her family members were worried and was desperate to find the perfect way of delivering the tragic news, for fear she would break down and collapse due to her having heart problems.
So slowly and gently, this woman's sister decided to tell her about her husband's fate.
Gently and giving quaint hints, the woman finally figured out the terrible truth of her husband's death. She immediately began to change, from a weakling to a wailing, maddening woman.
She felt complete loss for the someone she depended on most, but she soon realised, this wasnt what she was actually feeling inside. In her room, she began to unwrap and resolve her mixed feelings. She finally celebrated her new found freedom, husband's death, as it finally dawned upon her, that there will be no one to control and to oversee her life, ever again.
*Victorian Period-
Ladies(wives) have to always follow husbands words.
They cant go out as they like and they have to always stick at home, awaiting for theier
heroes to return home. Before the ladies get married, their life lies on the parents' hands.
But as they get married and lead a new life, they will be under their husband's control
and will not be related to the family in terms of orders, demands and needs.
Upon the realisation that her body and soul is free, she was overjoyed and was celebrating in a way that she drank elixir, a form of medication to ease pains, (some sort of temporary painkiller, i guess), and became drunk that she floated down the stairs and died of a real heart problem- heart attack.
Why? When she reached the ground level, the door was open and she saw the man whom she heard had died in an accident standing still, looking alright and healthy, if not for the minor scratches he had.
Ironic isnt?
After brainstorming a few more points based on the passage, Ms Poh reminded us that we are required, as ELites, to read deeper and uncover the hidden secrets behind some sentences/phrases, and explain why they are so significant in the passage. Then did she begin to distribute chunks of the different parts of the passage to each different pairs. Nam and I had the part somewhere in the middle, I guess, describing of the mixed feelings the 'sick' woman had, when told of her husband's death.
It was a very
easy passage for us, because there were obvious points that obviously had a secret meaning to it, and it was obvious that we had a little too many imagination as we were one of the two pairs that were loud enough to describe the many solutions to our 'hidden treasure(s)'. The other pair,(or rather individual) was was making such a racket was Mika. He was, well, very cute in making nonsensical point of views from the passage he received. Indeed, he has a creative mind like myself and Nam(opps. Sorry to boast XD) but his vocabs are, {gasps}
Ohh-myy-Gawdd! He kept complaining about how
difficult and complicating his part of passage was and yet, he actually got the points right but still insisted on saying 'No, I suck. Thats it.'
In the midst of all the chaos we were creating during the discussion, Mdm Tan left and Mika was delighted. He started using Literary techniques that were, err.. so cute? And made up how evil Mdm Tan is, and imitated the tone of a holy man saying, 'The Evil presence is gone! We are free! It's gone away~!'
This has got nothing to do with the discussion so Ms Poh, although entertained, told Mika to focus and get started with his passage (cus it was still blank). So I will continue with the report.
Ms Maslinda appeared majestic, and seriously deadly, coming up from my back and staring over. I only noticed her presence when her wow-big scarf floated with the wind, and we(Nam and I) were on about the second paragraph, on why the woman started reconsidering the consequences of her husband's absence from then on. Too many points and conversations to post, too little time, and Im already worn out from today's group-study activity. Haha.
So, to cut things short, we were almost done on highlighting the key points from the OHT paper and reasoning our points on another piece of A5 paper when the bell rang for recess. Like tyrannic, hungry animals, everyone stampede back to their seats and raced down to the finishing line, canteen. I was still stuck in class, trying to complete the remaining reasons for the last few points but was distracted when the Bio students took their turn stampeding into the class, and Nam was still busy thinking of what to elaborate further down the points.
Thats it for today I guess. Tomorrow will be one of the two double-periods for Literature. I would want to conserve and reserve my energy for tomorrow's class. Gawd, Im so worn out!
Nights people!
And stay HOLEY!
