In this quotation, it is clearly stated the impression Mrs Dubose had on Atticus when she mentioned 'no better'. Showcasing her prejudice, she discriminated Atticus by conveying that he deserved to be looked down like the blacks since he tried to defend one.
Arouse the reader's empathy towards Atticus who holds on to his strong sense of convictions and justice.
Encourages the readers to identify the conflict that had been going on in Maycomb County.
